Legionnaire Hats

At all times wear a hat. Legionnaire styles are ideal as they have the long flap for the back of the neck and prevent their ears being burnt too. Make sure you tie it on properly and firmly so they cannot remove it.

Now is the time to prepare for summer holidays.
Taking a baby on holiday requires a lot of careful planning as more often you cannot buy the right items abroad.

Consider insects. Remember to purchase an insect net to fit either a travel cot you are taking with you or elect for a universal fitting version for multi hotel cots and prams.
When at the poolside we would suggest no child is ever left without armbands whether in the water or not. Accidents happen in an instant and little children are hugely attracted to the water and can fall in easily.

For swim suits always use a swim nappy. We are often asked what to wear underneath. The answer is nothing. Your child will pee happily when they are in the water and if there was any padding to hold the pee, it would also absorb the swimming pool water and your baby would be so heavy. It is merely to catch the poo which may be passed in the pool. Should this happen, withdraw to the changing rooms, rinse and wash the baby and then the swim nappy, dress baby again and return to the pool for some more fun.

Summer shoes are generally of a sandal style. These shoes not only expose their feet to sunburn and are not suitable in water or on the beach. The PHP beach shoe has a mesh top and sides and a non-slip sole. Kids cannot remove them easily and so they remain on. The mesh will drain out water and their feet will be comfortable and ideally will be worn even in the water so they do not slip when getting out of the pool or cut their feet on the beach on sharp stones or worse.

An excellent idea is to use the Sun Signal Stickers to remind you of the amount of sunshine you have been in during the day. Another great reminder would be the UV monitor to measure the UV intensity and can be worn around your neck or hand held

Highlight of the month

Baby’s eyes are the same as ours and sun damage can result from excessive sunshine. The Babybanz sunglasses are ideal as they have a soft Velcro headband to keep the glasses on and have excellent UV protection for the eyes.

Tip of the month
Sun tan lotion. Make a careful study of sun lotion creams for your baby. Put the cream on first thing in the morning whilst dressing your baby to ensure a first layer, and remember to have at hand for frequent extra applications during the day.

Take baby bath toys. Water ones so they can double up for the bathtime the pool or just playtime.

Finally always have a spare set of clothing with you. Once when flying to the USA my baby vomited everywhere, one change of clothes (for both of us) and we could all enjoy the rest of the journey dry and fresh smelling.
